Mandarin Calligraphy | 5 Minute Massages | Steel Pan Workshop

Chill out to sunny calypso vibes with a lunchtime steel pan performance and interactive workshop pay what you like for a 5 (ish) minute massage with Elke Sigg /  student-led Mandarin calligraphy writing session  /  grown-up colouring book giveaway PLUS a limited supply of free fruit and snacks courtesy of Whole Foods Market, Kensington. Yay!

A meditation session led by Karuna from the Imperial College London Chaplaincy 

Calm in the chaos: Learn 3 mindful ways to deal with work stress and pressures. In this workshop, you will learn to acknowledge your situation better, not judge harshly and respond kindly to situations, so you can be calm in the midst of chaos.

Pauline Oliveros’ Tuning Meditation, led by Benji Jeffrey

In The Tuning Meditation, those taking part are asked to tune to another player or to contribute a pitch which no one else is sounding. If the instructions are followed carefully then a beautiful texture arises with common tones threading through the cloud of sound. You don’t need to be able to sing to take part.

How Not to Burn Out workshop 

This short session aims to help you to identify the signs of burnout in yourself and others and will discuss the factors that lead to burnout. It will present you with strategies to prevent burnout from occurring and will signpost you to services and resources if you need support.

De-Stress for Success

This short session outlines NHS and MIND mental health charity guidelines for wellbeing, combining this advice with practical examples and strategies to overcome procrastination, performance anxiety and to take a holistic approach to pursuing success in your studies. It will signpost you to services and resources that can help you manage your stress. NOTE: Neither workshop should replace the advice of a medical professional.

Bex Tadman, FRSA, MSc
Mental Health First Aider, Royal College of Art

Bex is an early career researcher with expertise in higher education, mental health, equality and diversity, performance studies and community building. Her specialty is the use of storytelling for social change. She holds a BSc Social Science and an MSc in Gender, Sexuality and Society from Birkbeck College, University of London. She will soon be a techne funded PhD candidate at the University of Roehampton. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Chair of the Board of Trustees for Raze Collective, a charity supporting queer performers and venues across the UK, she also has over 12 years of experience working in HE and research institutions in the UK, Europe and Australia. She has juggled full time work, part time study and volunteering for over 8 years of this time.

Chinese tea is a beverage made from the leaves of tea plants that is deeply woven into the history and culture of China. In China, people believe that drinking tea is a kind of self-cultivation behavior, which is also good for human health and mental peace.

Chinese tea can be classified into five distinctive categories: white, green, red, black and post-fermented. In this event, you will have a chance to taste them, learn Chinese tea culture and appreciate some works of art related to Chinese tea culture. There also will be traditional Chinese cakes and snakes served with tea.
