Societies Opportunity Fund

The Societies Opportunity Fund is a pot of money available for registered societies at RCASU, offering a chance to apply for up to £500 to support large-scale projects or events. Whether you're looking to create a zine, invite an exciting speaker, or bring your ambitious ideas to life, this fund is here to help make it happen.

Applications open on the 14th of November and close on the 5th of December.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Society Opportunities Fund, your society must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum Membership: Your society must have at least 20 active members at the time of application. They would have to be subscribed members through the Students' Union Website.
  • Scope of the Event/Project: The project or event must be large-scale, with a focus on delivering value to society members and the wider community.
  • The event must be on site at one the RCA Campuses
  • It must deliver the project by term two. The fund cannot be used in term 3.

What Can the Fund Be Used For?

The Society Opportunities Fund is versatile and can support a range of costs associated with running successful events or projects. These include:

  • Materials and Supplies:
Funding can be used to purchase materials or supplies needed for workshops, hands-on activities, or other events. For example, this could include art supplies, educational materials, or equipment rentals.

  • Speaker Fees:
Bring in expert guest speakers to share their knowledge with your members. The fund can cover fees or honorariums to attract engaging speakers.

  • Catering Costs:
Host events with refreshments! The fund can help cover catering costs.

  • Printing and Marketing Materials:
Promote your event effectively with printed materials such as flyers, posters, and banners. The fund can be used to support the creation and distribution of these materials to ensure a successful turnout.

  • Workshops:
Whether you're organising skill-building workshops, training sessions, or educational activities, the fund can help with costs related to materials and facilitators.

  • AV (Audio-Visual) Support:
Use the fund to enhance your event with AV equipment, such as microphones, projectors, sound systems, and other technology that ensures a professional presentation and improves the experience for attendees. This additional support for events comes at a cost and must be booked in advance with RCA.

What the Fund Cannot Be Used For

To ensure that the funding directly benefits society members and aligns with our goals, there are a few specific restrictions:

  • Organising Exhibitions:
The fund cannot be used for events that are primarily exhibitions. Please see the non-academic show process if interested in curating an exhibition at the RCA.

  • Paying Organisers or Members for Their Time:
Funding cannot be used to pay yourself or other members of your society for the time spent organising or managing the event. The intention is to support event costs, not to compensate organisers directly.
