As a student, you’ve likely heard about Students' Union elections, seen mentions around campus or even experienced them during your undergraduate studies in the UK. But what exactly are they, and why do they matter?
 
Students' Union elections are held annually. The purpose of these elections is to democratically elect 2 students who will represent the interests and concerns of the student body to the institution's administration and other external bodies.
 
In many cases, the Students' Union, is responsible for organising various events, clubs, campaigns, motions and societies on campus, as well as providing various services and advocating for student rights. The elected officials play a critical role in shaping the campus community and ensuring that the student body's interests are taken into account in decision-making processes.
 
To participate in the Students' Union elections, you need to be a registered student at RCA and be able to start from 1st August 2025 to 31st July 2026. Two paid positions can be contested, President and Vice-President of the Students' Union, who will be sitting on various committees or boards that oversee different aspects of the institution's operations. 
 
Election campaigns can be exciting, and competitive, and bring great energy to campus life. Students' Union elections are also an opportunity for students to voice their opinions and concerns about campus life and the issues that matter to them. Candidates often hold debates, forums, and rallies to discuss their platforms, answer questions from the student body, and engage with potential voters.
