The Royal College of Art Students’ Union wants to address the troubling events in Israel and Palestine and their impact on our student community. We recognise that these events are deeply distressing and will have implications on our students’ physical and mental well-being.

As your Students’ Union we want to emphasise that we are here to support all our members affected by the ongoing violence in Israel and Palestine. If you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious please reach out to us. Our solidarity is with anyone who is a part of our community and around the world.

The Union strongly condemns the violation of human rights and war crimes we are currently witnessing, as well as the decades of injustices which have precipitated the current crisis. Our Union also opposes the discriminatory and hateful language employed by those in positions of power used to dehumanise civilians. We stand against those who attempt to silence meaningful discussion about the real impact of those affected by the crisis. We advocate for those who speak out against their own oppression.

As a Students’ Union, we strongly believe that diversity is the biggest strength in our student community and we fully embrace all of our rich and diverse perspectives. We firmly stand for inclusivity and equality and wholeheartedly mean it.

The situation in Israel and Palestine provokes strong emotions. Your Students’ Union encourages any discussions around this topic to centre empathy and respect. We ask for all of our students to support each other during this extremely difficult time. We remind students that not a single Jewish, Muslim, Palestinian or Israeli member of our community is responsible for the actions of Hamas or the Israeli State. In addition, these members of the RCA student body should not be made to feel pressured to take a stance on the issue on the basis of their identity or appearance.

We collectively strive for peace.

With love and solidarity,

Your Students' Union
